The Heidelberg polarized alkali source

چکیده
2014 An atomic beam source for negative polarized lithium ions is operated at the Heidelberg EN-Tandem since 1974. A highly efficient surface ionizer is used. Vector and tensor polarized beams of 6Li (I = 1) and 7Li (I = 3/2) have been produced with currents up to 150 nA of Li3+ at the target. The second rank tensor polarization of both beams is calibrated absolutely. Preliminary results of producing a polarized 23Na beam are reported. REVUE DE PHYSIQUE APPLIQUÉE TOME 12, OCTOBRE 1977, PAGE Sources for negative polarized light ions (p and d) are frequently used at Tandem accelerators as a tool in nuclear physics [1, 2]. Attempts to produce negative polarized beams of heavier particles have resulted in the Los Alamos source for tritium ions [3] and the Heidelberg source for alkali ions [4, 5] which FIG. 1. Source for negative polarized alkali ions. (*) On leave from the Instytut Badàn Jadrowych, Warsaw. is subject of the present paper. An interesting aspect of polarized alkali beams is the large nuclear deformation of 7Li and 23Na which seems to be of great interest in heavy ion physics [6]. 1. Polarized atomic beam. Effect of light Polarization on the absorption index of alkali metal vapor in optical pumping phenomenon
Recently atomic magnetometers are one of the best tools in biomagnetic measurement such as magnetic field of brain and heart. In this paper, the technology of optically pumped atomic magnetometer based on circularly polarized light absorption pumping is described. We have been investigated a new method for measuring polarization effect in an alkali vapor based on polarized light transmission. I...
متن کاملAnisotropic relaxation in spin-exchange collisions of alkali atoms
Spin-exchange optical pumping [1] uses spin-exchange collisions between He atoms and optically pumped Rb atoms to produce large quantities of highly spin-polarized He for a variety of applications, including medical imaging [2] and spin-polarized targets [3]. The efficiency of polarized He production is determined by two fundamental rates: the Rb-He spin-exchange rate and the Rb spinrelaxation ...
متن کاملElliptical polarization of near-resonant linearly polarized probe light in optically pumped alkali metal vapor
Optically pumped alkali metal atoms currently provide a sensitive solution for magnetic microscopic measurements. As the most practicable plan, Faraday rotation of linearly polarized light is extensively used in spin polarization measurements of alkali metal atoms. In some cases, near-resonant Faraday rotation is applied to improve the sensitivity. However, the near-resonant linearly polarized ...
متن کاملLaser Driven Polarized H/D sources and targets
Traditionally, Atomic Beam Sources (ABSs) are used to produce targets of nuclear polarized Hydrogen (H) or Deuterium (D) for experiments using storage rings. Laser-Driven Sources (LDSs) o er a factor of 20-30 gain in the target thickness (however, with lower polarization) and may produce a higher overall gure of merit. The LDS is based on the technique of spin-exchange optical pumping where alk...
متن کاملLight Propagation Through a Polarized Alkali Vapor in a Magnetic Field at an Arbitrary Angle
We calculate the wavenumbers and polarization vectors for the two eigenmodes of light propagation through a polarized alkali vapor in a magnetic field. The wavenumbers correspond to the atomic polarizabilities for absorbing photons with ±1 unit of angular momentum. If there is an angle θ between the light propagation direction and the magnetic field, then, to a very good approximation, the wave...
